Disposal of Sharps Bins
At Combe Down Surgery, your health and safety are our top priorities. If you use sharps bins at home for disposing of needles, syringes, or other medical sharps, it’s important to handle and dispose of them correctly to protect yourself and others.
Sharps bins are designed to safely contain used medical sharps and prevent injury or infection. When your sharps bin is full, please follow our recommended disposal process to ensure it is handled safely and in line with local regulations.
In Bath and North East Somerset, you can safely dispose of your full sharps bins through the council's clinical waste collection service. Here's how:
-
Obtain a Sharps Bin: You can get a sharps bin from your local pharmacy or on prescription from your GP.
-
Book a Sharps Collection: Once your sharps bin is about three-quarters full, book a collection through the Bath and North East Somerset Council's online service: Bath & North East Somerset Council
-
Prepare for Collection: Ensure your sharps bin is securely closed and placed at your designated collection point on the scheduled day.
-
Reorder Sharps Bins as Needed: If you require additional sharps bins, you can order them through your pharmacy or your GP.
Please note: Never dispose of sharps bins in your regular household waste or recycling. Improper disposal can pose serious health risks.
